_‘  photography that comes closer to painting  _’

The series of CLOUDscapes tries to capture these amazing sculptures forming every day above our heads. Being always fascinated by the shape of clouds, their immense size compared to the small places they are travelling over and the fragile state of their being, I developed this series of photographs depicting idealistic or rather imaginary forms.

In the first stage, the eye is directed by playing with an artificial depth of field to create a climax or intensification inside the frame that enables it to guide the viewer's eye movement across the image. In the next stage, I continue to manipulate the photos by blurring their shapes direction-wise following their motion and exaggerating the blurred effect as a result of them being out of focus.

In the last stage, I finalise the previous procedures by painting over the images inside a digital editing software stressing certain found traits and being interested in a way of photography that comes closer to painting than mere reproduction cycle. The resulting photographs stand between painting and photography, between the figurative and the abstract, trying to recreate a feeling of awe in front of these naturally formed sculptures and turning away from the objective observing eye of a scientist to the more subjective defining view of an artist.
